If you have arrived at this page, you are likely interested in applying to work on Maoyuu Maou Yuusha under the VISCANS name. Don’t apply unless you want to do the most tedious work ever.
I am looking for two positions specifically for Maoyuu Maou Yuusha (in order of priority):
- A Cleaner
- A Typesetter
Please read all information and instructions relevant to your desired position. It is important to follow rules, as I will expect you to be good at following directions and rules.
The requirements/recommendations in this recruitment page are rather vague on purpose, because you will likely be cleaning and typesetting in ways you have never done so before (perhaps a slight exaggeration). What I want is someone who has basic skills, and is ready to learn something different.
Cleaning for Maoyuu
Apparently, the cleaning method I use for Maoyuu starting from chapter 4 and onwards is extremely tedious and annoying. Can you handle it? Experienced manga staffers tell me that my cleaning method will “make people quit.” However, I find that the results of my cleaning method are quite good. (If you don’t agree after having seen our Maoyuu, let us battle to the death. Also, that probably means you think you can do better, and if you can truly do better, I would love to have you join.)
Cleaner Applicant Requirements:
- Familiar with Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite,
- Some experience cleaning manga/manhwa/manhua (high redrawing ability a gigantic plus),
- Good sense for visual image quality,
- Ability to obtain required tools without our help – We will not help you find “x” software/suite/filter,
- A lot of time and patience.
Recommended:
- Understanding of Photoshop “Actions”,
- Knowledgeable about Topaz filters and how the filters actually work,
- Ownership of decent quality monitors (even though this is only “recommended”, please have a good monitor, please).
Typesetting for Maoyuu
Typesetting for Maoyuu is hell, mostly because I am extremely picky about how exactly I typeset things. Don’t like it? Don’t apply.
Typesetter Applicant Requirements:
- Familiar with Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite,
- Some experience with the Text tool in Photoshop,
- Ability to understand the finer aspects, stylistic qualities, and aesthetics of typesetting (for example, how to center text and how to shape text to a bubble),
- A lot of time and patience.
Recommended:
- Understanding of Photoshop “Actions”,
- Familiarity with Unicode characters and symbols – you will need to understand how they work and why I need them in Maoyuu,
- Exposure to typography concepts and terms.
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
If you happen to get hired, please don’t waste my time and “disappear” like so many new applicants do. IF YOU GET HIRED, BUT DON’T REALLY FEEL LIKE DOING THE WORK ANYMORE, JUST TELL ME THAT YOU DON’T WANT TO DO IT ANYMORE. PLEASE. I WON’T THINK LESS OF YOU. In fact, if you show some backbone and clearly say that you don’t want to do the work anymore, my respect for you will increase tenfold and I will give you a pat on the back before sending you off back into the wild.
That said, I do understand real life happens. But if you can, please drop on and say something. I won’t poke and prod you if you say something beforehand.
There will not be a “strict deadline”. The work gets done when it gets done. However, obviously the sooner something is completed, the better. Please don’t be offended if I feel you are too slow and either: ask you to get it done faster, or I just do your work for a chapter before you finish it.
Additionally, if you think I am too slow, then go ahead and bug me. I won’t care.

You do not have to expound endlessly on your experience. It will be assumed that by applying, you have read this page and have some experience. Note that we are an IRC-based group, and that you will be expected to join us on IRC on the regular. In other words, say what your IRC nickname is on IRCHighway.
