This section of the site explains the best way to scanlate - usually known as a tutorial. There are various tutorials here; one on cleaning and lettering respectively, a short introduction on how to structure texts if you're a translator and a missing tutorial on proofreading translations. I'm sorry about that, but I'm no proofreader and I won't act as if I'd knew much about it either.
Anyway, read this before you apply to a scanlation group, or - if you feel like you just won't understand stuff - read one of the tutorials in the "Misc" section. There are also various useful tools linked over there, check it out.

Enjoy and learn well,
eito
P.S.: I'm sorry that the screenshots were made on a german version of Photoshop - just read the text and you'll understand the screenshots, too.
